Escape to Victory is the greatest football film ever made. Directed by John Huston in 1981 it is set in a Prisoner of War camp during the second world war. Michael Caine stars as Captain John Colby, who leads Sylvester Stallone and an all star cast of footballers including Pele, Bobby Moore, Osvaldo Ardiles, and Mike Summerbee, who agree to play a football match against some local german troops, but after the Nazi propaganda machine takes over they end up in occupied Paris playing the German National team. If you've never heard of this film before then welcome to the Escape to Victory Web Site. "Here's To Victory"

| Bobby Moore Cancer fund recieves boost from legend |
Alan Shearer, recently retired Newcastle United Striker, and all round nice chap, has donated the proceeds of his testimonial match (1.6million) to charity.
Among the charities and north east local groups to recieve money, including Wallsend Boys Club, and Cramlington Junoirs FC, Alan also decided to give £25,000 to the Bobby Moore Cancer Fund.
Nice one.
(I suppose that trumps the Escape to Victory Soundtrack CD the site donated to them a month ago), If ever there were to be a remake, Id like Alan to be in the squad, no doubts about that.

| Escape to Victory Released today |
Just a quick reminder that another release of Escape to Victory is out today. Ive got to point out that it probably doesn't have any special features but comes with a st George cross. On the bright side its not exclusive to HMV, and so does make the film more available, which is always a good thing. Maybe that should be the next campaign, get them to release the flick with some decent features, or even commentary, Id love to see what all the football stars, and even some of the actors, would have to say on the film while watching it, especially the footie scenes.
Will Callaghan sent me a link to a review he has done of the World Cup Edition Here |
