How to get Escape to Victory

Looking for Escape to Victory on DVD or VHS?

Those of you who live in the UK and Europe may be wondering why you can't find the film on DVD or VHS in any of the shops or online. This is because the film currently isnt being released here. One of the campaigns of this website is to get the distributer (presumably Warner Brothers) to release the film in the UK and Europe, personally I cant see why they haven't, the film is hugely popular over here, more so than the US, mainly due to the football, and the level of emails I have recieved in the last month alone asking where to buy this great film clearly shows there is a demand. If you can help with this campaign then please get in touch. Ive got an online petition started which you are welcome to sign.

Anyway there are ways around this, and if you are looking for a copy then I hope this page will help. first I will explain how you can purchase a copy on DVD.

Ok so its not being released over here, but it has been on general release in the United States. The film is called "Victory" over there and has been released on DVD.

The thing you need to realise about DVD's are that they have region protection encoding on them. The world has been split into 6 regions. North American DVDs are encoded with Region 1, whereas Europe Region 2, etc. What this basically means is that in order to play an American DVD on a European DVD player, it would need to be either a Region Free or Multiregion player, or that there was a way of unlocking the region protections. I'll get to buying it in a second, but first here is a link to a good website which can tell you whether your player can be "unlocked" and what steps to take.
Go to http://www.regionfreedvd.net/ This site has all relevant information about DVD players and how to "Unlock them". If your player is unlockable the info will be here, just do a search for your make of DVD player.

Buying Escape to Victory on DVD

Ok, there are many places on the internet to purchase DVDs from America, the one I recommend is www.playusa.com, this is an British website which imports American DVDs and sells them in the UK (and I think Europe), presently Escape to Victory sells at £7.99 including Delivery which is an absolute bargain.

Im sure there are others out there, and if anyone has any details then I will be only too happy to put them on this site

Buying Escape to Victory on VHS

Well as Ive already said the film is deleted in the UK and Europe, so the only possibility of getting it on VHS is to go for a Second Hand copy. If you live near a specialist video shop, they may be able to get hold of one for you, and there are occasionally video fairs on around the country that specialise in second hand videos. On the internet one place I usually refer people is Ebay.co.uk (simply because its one of the only places Ive found that have copies) People on Ebay sell their copies of the film for around 5 to 15 pounds. My advice really would not to pay more than 10 pounds for a copy of the film in this way(true it may be rare, but remember this is second-hand and the copy you recieve is over 14 years old as it was 1989 when it was last released in the UK.
Click Here for a link to jump directly to the Escape to Victory page at Ebay to see if any copies are currently for sale.

I hope you find this information helpful, and hopefully Warner Bros will get their act together and notice what an opportunity they are missing by not releasing the film on this side of the pond.
